According to proper etiquette, wedding invitations should not mention a dress code.
However, it is often deemed necessary for the modern couple, Who wants to have someone wearing floral shirts to a formal wedding anyway.
With wedding themes and styles covering pretty much all aspects of life, guests may find a hard time deciding on what to wear to a wedding without at least a clue as to what the couple expects.
For what to wear to a beach wedding, the dress code seems to be pretty easy. But some people may still end up showing up like they’re going to a luau. They would be perfect models on what not to wear.
Just because you’re on the beach doesn’t mean you have to wear a swimsuit cover up and flip flops. Remember that you’re attending a wedding and it can be a pretty formal event. Some beach weddings can be extremely casual or it may require black tie. For the couple, it may be best to add even just a small line at the bottom of the invitation to clue the guests in on what to wear to the event.
The line black tie or black tie optional would suggest a formal beach wedding, usually held in the evening. Women should wear a long formal dress in hues of dark grays, browns, navies, purple, burgundies or greens. Men should wear a dark suit and tie.
A beach formal wedding still requires a formal dress code but this gives guests a little room for what to wear to wedding when it comes to style and color. Vibrant colors for both men and women will look great at a beach wedding but do still consider a formal style of shirts and dresses.
A dressy casual beach wedding often indicates a more informal look. Men can wear a linen suit or just dress shirts and slacks and still look appropriate while women can wear tea-length sundresses.
Vacation attire gives way to a very informal dress code. This is the type of wedding where men can wear their summer shirts and khaki pants while women can wear a patterned short sundress. However, guests should still avoid wearing jeans or shorts. It still is a wedding after all.
When looking for what to wear to wedding, especially beach wedding, always take into account the time of the year, the time of the ceremony and the expected temperature. A beach wedding in the fall and winter can be very cool by night time while a summer wedding is likely to be hot. For summer weddings, choose fabrics like linen and cotton and choose fabrics like polyester and wool for colder fall or winter. A wrap is a good option for covering up as the night cools.
Take the coastal winds as another consideration when choosing what to wear to a beach wedding. The winds can send ties and skirts flying so be sure to pick up a tie clip and avoid dresses that are too short and flowy.
Choosing what to wear to a wedding can prove to be more difficult if the ceremony was to be held at the beach. When in doubt about the appropriateness of your chosen attire, it’s always fine to ask the couple about what style they had in mind.
