Cost of Marriage License

Anyone can get married in Florida, whether they are a resident or not.

As with most U.S. states Florida is pushing couples to take part in pre-marriage preparation courses, these can be taken at anytime within 12 months of your chosen marriage date.

Those that have taken the class will enjoy a discounted license fee, plus no waiting period. It costs $93.50 in cash if you have failed to take part in the preliminary course and you will also have a minimum 3 days waiting period.

If you have taken part in a 4-hour pre-marriage course run by an official trainer listed by the clerk’s office you will only be required to pay a $32.50 marriage license fee and can pick up your license on the day.

If you really don’t have time to take part in a one to one session with a trainer, it can also be taken via the internet or video; so it is possible to do it from home in your free time.

Florida Marriage License Requirements and Regulations

To apply for a Florida marriage license you will need to provide the clerk with some form of identification. This can be a drivers license, social security card or valid passport any of the main photo ID’s will do.

Both you and your partner are required to be present during the marriage application process.

Don’t forget, if you have been previously married or divorced you will need to bring a copy of a separation document that gives a date and an official stamp or signature.

Once you receive the marriage certificate you will need to have it signed by a valid minister before the arrangement is finalized and completed.

A couple under the age of 18 will need their parents written consent before they can be married, in the case that both legal guardians are deceased, the couple can seek a marriage certificate approval from a district court judge. If one of the minors is expecting a baby and want to marry, they can use the pregnancy certificate as an approval document and continue with the marriage.
